Skin Conditions
Skin concerns are one of the most common reasons that patients consult with their primary care provider. The Nurse Practitioner can assess, diagnose, and provide treatments options for a wide array of conditions. The development of the skin condition, its extent and severity, as well as its impact on the patient's quality of life are taken into consideration.
Education about skin care, elimination of triggers/exacerbating factors, and use of over-the-counter products is important in the management of all skin conditions. Topical prescription medications, such as creams and ointments, and/or oral prescription medications may be warranted.
Common skin conditions include:
-
Acne, rosacea, facial rashes/dermatitis, scalp rashes, seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff)
-
Eczema (limited to one area), psoriasis (limited to one area), contact dermatitis (ie poison ivy), rashes from allergic reactions, diaper rash
-
Rashes from fungal infections, tinea (ringworm), impetigo
-
Cold sores, genital herpes
-
Mild to moderate Hidradenitis Suppurativa
-
Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Depending on the condition, treatment may take weeks or even months to improve. For treatment resistant concerns, consultation with a dermatologist may be arranged.
